Frequently asked questions.

What is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)?

An RCC is a mental health professional who has met the rigorous academic and clinical requirements set by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). This includes a Master’s degree in counselling or a related field, ongoing supervision, and adherence to a strict code of ethics. Working with an RCC means you are receiving professional, ethical, and evidence-based care.

What can counselling help with?

Counselling can support you in many areas, including:

  • Anxiety, stress, or burnout

  • Depression and mood challenges

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship or family issues

  • Self-esteem and identity concerns

  • Life transitions and decision-making
If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just unsure where to start, counselling can help you find clarity and healing.

What can I expect in the first session?

Your first session is about getting to know each other and helping you feel comfortable. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to counselling, explore your goals, and discuss how therapy might support you. You’re welcome to ask questions at any point—we’ll move at your pace.

Do I need a referral to see an RCC?

No referral is needed. You can reach out directly to schedule an appointment or book a consultation. However, if you have extended health benefits, your insurance provider may have specific requirements—check with them to see if a referral is needed for reimbursement.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is a top priority. Everything you share in sessions is confidential, with a few exceptions required by law, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others or in cases of abuse or court orders. These limits will be clearly explained at your first session.

Is online counselling secure?

Yes. I offer secure virtual counselling sessions. Whether you're more comfortable from home or dealing with a busy schedule, online therapy can be a flexible and effective option

How long are counselling sessions?

Standard sessions are typically 50 minutes long. However, I additionally offer 90-minute, 2-hour and intensives for EMDR.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone's journey is unique. Some people find clarity after just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our work together based on what feels right for you.

What are your fees? Are sessions covered by insurance?

Fees align with the BCACC’s recommended rate. Many extended health benefit plans cover sessions with an RCC, though coverage varies. Be sure to check with your provider. I can issue detailed receipts for you to submit for reimbursement.

How do I get started?

You can book a free 15-minute consultation to ask questions and see if we’re a good fit. From there, we can schedule your first session and begin your counselling journey together.
